Board of Trustees News

Thursday, December 29, 2016

At the December 2016 meeting of the Board of Trustees, Barbara Hadley Stanton stepped down as Chair of the Board. Ms. Stanton, who joined the Library in 1956 and the Board in 1988, became Board Chair in 2013, the first female Chair in Library history. During her tenure, the Library has made significant strides, including a major expansion of open hours and services such as e-books, and the renovation of the Children's Library. In a special resolution, the trustees expressed their sincere appreciation and extended their heartfelt thanks to Ms. Stanton "for her extraordinary leadership and distinguished service as Chair - service imbued with intellect, passion, and dedication." Ms. Stanton will continue to serve on the Board.

The new Chair of the Board is Carol Collins Malone. Dr. Malone became a Library member in 2006 and a Board member in 2010. She has chaired the Lecture & Exhibition Committee since 2013.

A native New Yorker, Dr. Malone is a Chapin School graduate with a BA in French Literature from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. She received a background in the decorative and fine arts from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Dr. Malone serves on the board of trustees of the Northeast Harbor Library in Maine and until recently as a trustee of the Victoria Mansion, a house museum in New England. Her major interests include British literature, urban studies, and psychoanalytic psychology.
