Donate Books to the Next Generation of City Readers!

Monday, February 29, 2016

On March 12 and 13, over one thousand New York City public school teachers will spend part of their weekend cultivating their classroom library collections. These dedicated teachers will come to a hotel ballroom overflowing with children’s and young adult books donated to Project Cicero during our annual book drive. Upon arrival, teachers will browse the diverse selection to choose the books their students need, want, and will come to love as growing readers.

Project Cicero—named after the first-century Roman statesman, writer, orator, philosopher, and creator of libraries, Marcus Tullius Cicero—has been boosting the collections in school and classroom libraries in under-resourced NYC public schools for more than a decade. Now in its 16th year, Project Cicero has placed over 2.3 million books in 13,000 classrooms, reaching more than 550,000 children.

The Library is a proud participant in and sponsor of Project Cicero, and we need your help! Please donate new or gently used children’s and young adult books at the Library from Monday, February 29 through Wednesday, March 9. For more information please visit the Project Cicero website, including our Wish List. Every donation helps this worthy and literary cause.
