Hugh Gaine
Biography
Hugh Gaine (1726-1807) was a New York City bookseller at Hanover Square. He was born in Belfast, and arrived in the colonies in 1745. In 1752, he established a newspaper, the New York Mercury, later the Gazette and Mercury. Gaines was the treasurer of the St. Patrick's Society in 1789.

Hugh Gaine was a trustee of the New York Society Library from 1788 to 1807.
