Abraham Herring (1755-1837) was a New York City flour merchant at 42 Water Street. During the British occupation of New York City in the American Revolution, Abraham lived in Stratford, Connecticut where he married Elizabeth Ivers. When he returned to New York, Herring settled the 1773 estate of his father, Elbert Herring, which included the Elbert Herring farm in the Bowery. Herring later dealt in dry goods at 192 Pearl Street. He was appointed inspector of collections as well as assessor of the Second Ward of New York City.
