Martin Hoffman
Biography
Martin Hoffman (1763-1828) was a descendant of Martin Hermansen Hoffman, who arrived in New Netherland in 1657. Martin Hoffman was a New York City merchant and auctioneer at 67 Wall Street. He later established the auction house Hoffman & Seton. He was elected to the New York Chamber of Commerce in 1789, became a Sachem of Tammany Hall in 1792, was a Captain in the First Regiment of Infantry, and was a member of the Saint Nicholas Society. Hoffman was married twice, first to Beulah Murray and then to Mary Frances Seton, daughter of William Seton.
