John Hone

Biography

John Hone (1764-1832) was a New York City auctioneer in the firm Philip & John Hone with his brother, Philip (later a mayor of New York City). He continued in the auction business with his sons as John Hone & Sons after the partnership with his brother dissolved in 1826. Hone was a director of the Merchants' National Bank from 1803 to 1830 and a member of the Saint Nicholas Society. He was married to Joanna Stoutenburgh.
