John Kemp

Biography 
John Kemp (1763-1812) was born in Scotland and graduated from Marischal College in Aberdeen in 1783. He received the degree of LL.D. from King's College in 1787. He came to New York and was appointed teacher and then professor of mathematics at Columbia College; he also taught geography and natural science.
Local Note 
John Kemp was a trustee of the New York Society Library from 1794 to 1812.
