Leffert Lefferts
Biography
Leffert Lefferts (1727-1804) was a New York City distiller at 55 Water Street. He married Dorothy Couwenhoven in 1746 and was appointed one of the three freeholders to defend town rights. He held that position from 1756 to 1776, and was also the town clerk from 1761 to 1776 and the commissioner of highways of Brooklyn from 1765 to 1767. Lefferts was the father of Jacobus L. Lefferts.
