James Parker Jr.

Biography
James Parker, Jr. (1776-1868) graduated from Columbia College in 1793. He entered a counting house and worked there until his father's death in 1797. He then returned to his family's New Jersey estate and began a mercantile career, and was a representative in the New Jersey legislature. Parker was also involved with surveying the land for Queen's College, later Rutgers University, and with the 1833 boundary dispute between New York and New Jersey. While in the state legislature in 1819, he helped to enact the passage of laws prohibiting local slavery.
