George Read

Biography 
George Read (1733-1798) was an American attorney and statesman from Maryland. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1752, beginning practice in Delaware. He was the Attorney General for lower Delaware from 1763 to 1774. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and served in the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777. Read also took part in the State constitutional convention for Delaware in 1776, and the Federal Constitutional Convention. He was a United States Senator from Delaware from 1789 to 1793, and was appointed the Chief Justice of Delaware in 1793.
