James Renwick

Biography 
James Renwick (1744-1803) originally came from Liverpool, England, arriving in New York in 1783. He became a New York City merchant at 92 William Street. Renwick was a manager of the St. Andrew's Society in 1789 and a director of the N.Y. Manufacturing Society. In 1789, he was one of the organizers of the Mercantile Society for Employing the Industrious Poor and Promoting Manufacturing. He married Catharine Mee in 1768.
Local Note 
James Renwick's son, also named James, was a trustee of the New York Society Library from 1820 to 1834.
