Marinus Willett

Biography 
Marinus Willett (1740-1830) was a New York City merchant at 36 Water Street. He attended King's College, later Columbia University, and served in the American Revolution. He was a leader of the Sons of Liberty and became a first lieutenant in the First New York Regiment. He was a lieutenant colonel by 1776 and later joined General George Washington's army. Wilkes served as Sheriff of both the City and the County of New York; he was an Anti-federalist and the mayor of New York City from 1807 to 1811.
