Teen Writers' Workshop: Generating the Fantasy Novel with Sarah Porter

Wednesday, February 8, 2017 - 5:30 PM
| For members and their guests in grades 7 and older | Whitridge Room | $10 per person, payable at the door; advance registration required

In this ongoing series, young writers are invited to join notable authors in exploring different genres. In our first session exclusively for teens, fantasy author Sarah Porter will guide participants in strategies for writing their own fantasy stories or novels. Through exercises examining the elements of fantasy, world-building, story mapping, and character development, teen writers can expect to leave ready to begin writing their own work of fantasy fiction.

Sarah Porter is a YA author, and artist, and a writing teacher in New York City schools. Her most recent book, Vassa in the Night, is a powerful and haunting modern fantasy-fairy tale set in New York City that has received multiple starred reviews.

This program is generously funded by Richard Peck.
