Yona Zeldis McDonough, Little Author in the Big Woods: The Life of Laura Ingalls Wilder

Friday, February 27, 2015 - 4:00 PM | For Members and Their Guests in Grades 3 and Older | Members' Room | $5 per person, payable at the door | Advance registration required

Many children fall in love with the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder not realizing that Wilder’s books are autobiographical. Little Author in the Big Woods: A Biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder by acclaimed author Yona Zeldis McDonough describes more details of Laura’s real life as a young pioneer homesteading with her family on many adventurous journeys. School Library Journal notes, ”Those who are less familiar with the series will find themselves well introduced to its timeless stories and to the independent, adventurous woman who created them.”

In this event, McDonough will read from her book and discuss her research process and Wilder’s life and stories.

Yona Zeldis McDonough is the author of many books for children, including The Doll Shop Downstairs, The Cats in the Doll Shop, Sisters in Strength, Anne Frank, and Louisa: The Life of Louisa May Alcott.

Registration is required. To register, contact the Children's Library at 212.288.6900 x234 or children@nysoclib.org.
