THE GREEN ALCOVE

NYSL: Green Alcove NYSL: Drawings by Byron Bell, FIA

John Cleve Green [1800-1875] was a prosperous figure of the old China trade. His family left an endowment to the Library for the purchase and repair of art and non-fiction books.

A portrait of John Green and panelling from the green alcove at University Place were moved to the Seventy-Ninth Street Library and both are now in a nook on the 12th level stack.
