Eliza Fawcett - Give me a little sweet sustenance
Give me a little sweet sustenance:
a crumpled whiff of sunshine,
a frayed petal, heaving a last kiss of dew -
Hand me a suppressed laugh,
bottled with shivering hands
in an old jam jar
(strawberry rhubarb, a bitter-sweet combination)
Toss me a wink,
an entanglement of eyelashes and brevity,
the caress of butterfly wings, lost in symmetry -
Crack me a smile,
plucked from the briny depths -
a half-eaten oyster: pearled ambiguity.
