Hell on Earth

My face is covered in smoke
My lungs are filled with ash
I see people running and falling
And I feel sorrow and despair

I hear gunshots and screaming
There is terror everywhere
I watch as they kill the children
The elderly and the weak

I watch and I think of the future
And sense it may never be
I watch and I hope against hope
That someone will rescue me

I look to Heavens in prayer
And I hear my father cry
Will we be alive tomorrow?
It is all in the hands of G-d

Yitzchak Cohen, 15 Poland 1942
