Biography:

    Walter Bowne (1770-1846), a descendant of a notable Quaker family from Flushing, Long Island, was a New York City merchant. He became the mayor of the city of New York in 1828, and was reappointed annually until 1833. During his career, he also served on the New York State Senate.
