William Livingston

Biography:
William Livingston (1723-1790) was an American attorney and statesman who graduated from Yale College in 1741. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1748, and began practice in New York. He edited the Independent Reflector in 1752. Livingston moved to New Jersey in 1772 and was a member of the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1776. During the American Revolution, he was commissioned a brigadier general of the New Jersey militia. He later served as the Governor of New Jersey from 1776 till his death. He was one of the signers of the United States Constitution and attended the Constitutional Convention. Livingston was the brother of Philip Livingston, and cousin of Edward and Robert R. Livingston.
