Remarks by Shirley Hazzard at 7:15 pm
This is the first exhibition ever devoted to the extraordinary literary couple Shirley Hazzard and Francis Steegmuller. Mr. Steegmuller, a Library member from 1944 until his death in 1994 was a major translator, National Book Award-winning biographer, and novelist. Ms. Hazzard's fiction has garnered a National Book Award, among many other honors, and her literary travel memoirs
Greene on Capri and
The Ancient Shore: Dispatches from Naples are also of enduring importance.
Along with celebrating these two significant writers, the exhibition presents and preserves the experiences and reflections of Ms. Hazzard, who has served on the Library's board since 1974. She will greet guests at the opening reception and give brief remarks.
The exhibition is open to the public; members and their guests are cordially invited to the reception.
This exhibition is generously supported in part by the Bodman Foundation
