NYSL: New York City Book Awards 2010

AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Thelma Golden
Harlem: A Century in Images

Skira Rizzoli, in association with Studio Museum Harlem

"...a handsome and rich photographic collection that amounts as much to a study of a place as it is a study of black style."
-The New Yorker

NYSL: New York City Book Awards 2010

AWARD FOR MEMOIR
Martin Lemelman
Two Cents Plain: My Brooklyn Boyhood

Bloomsbury USA

"This is literary territory familiar to fans of Mordecai Richler and Saul Bellow; what Lemelman brings to it is artistry featuring a fine eye for detail, penmanship nuanced but never watery, and a stylistic fearlessness that can stuff pop art tropes, photography, and naturalism onto the same page."
-Boston Globe

NYSL: New York City Book Awards 2010

AWARD FOR HISTORY
Peter Eisenstadt
Rochdale Village: Robert Moses, 6,000 Families, and New York City’s Great Experiment in Integrated Housing

Cornell University Press

"In recounting the inspiring and painful saga of Rochdale Village during the 1960s and '70s...Eisenstadt offers fresh perspectives on a dozen different domains, including housing, schooling, religion, politics, class, crime, and labor...a very compelling piece of work."
-Mike Wallace
