A human potato.
2025 5th-6th Grade Poetry Honorable Mention
A potato seems simple.
Round, imperfect yet also perfect.
Not all potatoes are the same.
Some are skinned, sliced and boiled and become glorious french fries.
Others are left in a bin to rot just because of who they are.
Some live a comfortable life, thriving in already fertilized soil.
Others work their way up to the surface, struggling with what's left.
If a worm digs itself into the potato, the potato will almost never become a french fry.
If a potato is not watered and shined upon from the sun, it will never grow enough to succeed.
We are all potatoes.
Not everyone grows up the same, not everyone is given the nutrients they need.
Not everyone is perfect at the start. Unless they are skinned, sliced, boiled and shaped into what people think is perfect.
