Every once in a while, I remind myself how long I've been a member of the Library. It's always remarkable to remember that it's been over thirty years. (Thank you, trustee William J. Dean, for introducing my family to the Library!) In 2008, I joined the staff as Director of Development.

Thanks to those who've given to the Annual Fund; if you haven't, there's still time.

We are pleased to invite everyone who joined the Library since June 2, 2017 to a party in their honor on Monday, December 4 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.

You will have the chance to meet Head Librarian Carolyn Waters and fellow new members while enjoying a glass of wine and learning more about the Library. Our curator Harriet Shapiro will be on hand to guide you through the new Willa Cather exhibition and tell you about Cather’s 20-year association with the Library.

Your contributions to the Annual Fund have a direct impact on the books we purchase, the lectures we present, the children’s programs we offer, the seminars we run, the writing groups we host, and so much more.

Donations of any amount make a difference. All gifts are tax-deductible and can be made by check, credit card, or in appreciated stock.

Whether you joined last week or decades ago, we thank you for being a member. Your membership fees provide critical operating support, yet they cover only part of the costs of running the Library. That is why we must rely on donations to the Annual Fund to help bridge the gap.

The monthly New Books list on the Reference Desk (and online) always reminds me of the vibrancy of the Library’s ever-growing collection. Thanks to the generosity of members and friends like you, more than 4,000 volumes will be added to the collection this year. Funds raised in the Spring Appeal help make this possible.

Why do YOU love the Library?

We often hear from members how much they love the Library. Author and member Lorrie Bodger has 75 reasons! Here are a few of her favorites.

    For Adults:

Open Stacks (Her #1 reason): The NYSL houses most of its impressive collection of books in open stacks that you may browse to your heart’s content.

Evening Events: These amazing book-related lectures and panels are for members – and friends.

You and your fellow members and friends make this possible by supporting the Annual Fund. Donations are put to use in those areas of greatest need within the Library's operations.
