My Backyard

2006 5th-6th Grade Poetry Winner

In my backyard I have
Grass that is as green as an apple.

In my backyard I have
Tress that are as tall as giraffes.

In my backyard I have
Flowers that smell as fresh as fruity lotion.

In my backyard I have
Swings so high that I can almost touch the sky with my loose hair blowing in the wind

In my backyard I have
Benches that are so worn from wear they feel like the smooth bark of a tree.

In my backyard I have
An Olympic-size swimming pool.

In my backyard I have
An ice-skating rink that looks like a giant mirror reflecting the butterflies dancing in the sky above.

In my backyard I have
More than 8 million people from all over the world like a big family reunion.

In my backyard I have
A carousel with music that sounds like the symphony of Mozart.

In my backyard I have
Squirrels so friendly like two best friends.

In my backyard I have
Birds that fly so swiftly in groups and alone.

In my backyard I have
More than a million dogs, it is like a dog marathon.

In my backyard I have
More than 20,000 bike riders in neon colors, racing across the busy streets.

In my backyard I have
Famous people performing in plays, concerts, and musicals.

In my backyard I have
Boats floating on the water as calm as a lake.

In my backyard I have
A pond with ducks and a reservoir too.

In my backyard I have
More than 20,000 joggers.

In my backyard I have
Horses that gallop with the grace of ballerinas.

In my backyard I have
Baseball and soccer fields.

In my backyard I have
A tavern smack in the middle of a field of Green.

In my backyard I have
A museum where the Degas ballerina poses.

In my backyard I have
Ice cream vendors, tunnels, and hills

Do you know where my backyard is? I certainly do.
It's Central Park!
