Quite a few years ago, after my novel The Two Mrs. Grenvilles became a hit, a magazine asked me to be photographed in a place of my choosing in the city that meant a great deal to me. I chose to be photographed in The New York Society Library. After all, I had done most of my research on that book (which dealt with a famous society shooting on Long Island in the 1950s) right there at the Library I was even sitting in the same chair in the photograph. I loved spending time back then in that lovely old house, which has such a history of its own, and I continue to love stopping in there, whether I'm doing research or just sitting and reading for an hour or two.
