A startling reevaluation of Lady Byron’s marriage and the untold story of her complex life as single mother and progressive force.

Julia Markus has been called “one of the most gifted novelists of her generation,” by Pat Conroy. She is the author of four critically acclaimed novels and three significant and often cited biographical works including Dared and Done: The Marriage of Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning. She received the Houghton Mifflin Literary Award for her first novel and has won a National Endowment for the Arts grant and two National Endowment for the Humanities grants. She is director of creative writing and a professor of English at Hofstra University.
