While film and television lingers on classics of the genre, there are new novels that have taken the speculative genre by storm. We'll talk about how books by authors like N.K. Jemisin, R.F. Kuang, and more, broke the mold; why they appeal to readers enough to be bestsellers and award winners; and, most interestingly, what conversations they're having with the old classics of the genres.

Discussions will cover

N.K. Jemisin, The Fifth Season
Nicola Griffith, Spear
R.F. Kuang, Babel
Sofia Samatar, Winged Histories
