Robertson Davies' Deptford Trilogy with Nicholas Birns (12/12 session)
Robertson Davies’s Deptford Trilogy is one of the great achievements of Canadian fiction and one of the crucial works that made Canada visible worldwide in literary terms. Told from three different points of view, the trilogy’s action stretches from rural Ontario to the labyrinths of academe and the illustrious and sinister haunts of old Europe, exploring the dreams and fates of a gallery of characters: hagiographers, healers, prosperous powerholders, and mysterious magicians—plus how a rogue snowball thrown on a winter’s day can change the destiny of small boys.
