Dandelion: A Sonnet
2022 7th & 8th Grade Poetry Winner
I am a dandelion.
I sway alone weightlessly in the wind.
When seeds are blown off, I take it on the chin.
Life is easier for me than others;
I stay reserved and not too many bother.
When people do pass me by, I shiver in fear.
Some friends were yanked out of the ground just last year.
A child is looming, he is as tall as a giant.
He picks me out of the ground, I am defiant.
“Put me down right now!” I try to scream,
But I knew the child would not listen to me.
I braced, ready to brave the incoming air.
I had no defense and off my seeds flew.
They are on their own, ready to start anew.
