NYSL Space Booking

As an important precaution in the efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are limiting the number of seats available in our reading and study spaces. In order to manage member expectations and demand for available work space under this scenario, we are requiring members to make reservations for the 12 available seats in the Hornblower Room, 4 in Little Whit and 6 Individual Study Rooms. The 13 desks in the stacks will be first come-first served, but will require members to pick up a seat ticket at the Circulation Desk. The Members' Room is limited to 12 seats and is first-come-first served.

  • Reservation times will be staggered in the morning to avoid over-crowding in the Circulation Area when checking in and while waiting for the elevator.
  • When booking requests, we will assign the earliest start time available. We cannot guarantee preferences for Individual Study Rooms.
  • Reservations will be for the entire day after your start time.
  • If members do not show up for reservations or return seat tickets or room keys before end of day, those spaces will be made available to walk-ins. Study rooms and seat locations will be cleaned once vacated.
  • Reservations will only be taken one week in advance.
  • Members must check in at the Circulation Desk on arrival to pick up their seat ticket or study room key. Walk-ins can sign up for the next available space in the Reference Room. Bring your Library card for fastest check-in.

How to Reserve
  • Email requests@nysoclib.org to reserve seats in the Hornblower Room (HBR), Little Whit (LW), and Individual Study Rooms (SR). Please provide your name, requested date, and requested space. We regret we will not be able to take space booking requests by phone or in person. Requests for next day booking received up to 15 minutes before closing will be answered. Any next day requests received after that time will be cancelled but note that walk-in spaces may be available.
  • View available seating here. Please remember to refresh this page frequently to see the most up to date availability.

Thank you for your patience as we try out this new procedure! We hope to improve on this and institute a true space booking system in the near future. For more on what to expect in our Phase 3 reopening and what you can do room by room, click here.
