Our Commitment to the Black Community

A message to our community from the staff and trustees of The New York Society Library

The New York Society Library stands in solidarity with all who are protesting the systemic racism that led to the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and those before them, as well as all who fight for justice and equality.

There are thousands of stories contained within our building, but the one that matters most is the story playing out in our city and our country. We believe in the power of books and dialogue to inspire understanding and impart knowledge. It is our hope that this is the path to meaningful change. We are committed to doing more to help realize a just society through the books we offer, the information we provide, and the diversity of voices we promote in our programming.
