Please Support Our Annual Appeal

Monday, November 6, 2023

Dear Members and Friends of the New York Society Library,

We share a rare cultural treasure. The Library is a space for discovery and quiet in our bustling city and has been an essential part of its intellectual life for nearly 270 years. We need your help to ensure that our collection, programs, and historic building will continue to meet the needs of everyone in our community.

It may surprise you to learn that membership fees provide less than one quarter of our annual operating budget. We have maintained them at the same rate since 2018, but rising costs make the need for charitable donations more vital than ever to sustain our work.

We have an ambitious fundraising goal of $500,000 to close the gap in our operating budget. If every member of our community makes a gift to this year’s Annual Fund, we have an excellent chance of reaching that goal.

Your contribution, no matter what the amount, will allow us to expand our print and electronic collections, present distinguished lectures and exhibitions, maintain our beautiful building, and support our dedicated staff.

By supporting the Library, you are safeguarding a unique and vibrant literary community in New York City. Thank you very much for considering a gift.

Sincerely,
James Addona
