The Last Bite

2018 3rd & 4th Grade Poetry Honorable Mention

Sadness and envy flow through my head.
Sadness comes like a virus,
Attacking cells one after another.
Envy takes control as I stare at my sister eating happily.
Should I eat it now or later?
I cannot think anymore.
I remind myself to be grateful,
Grateful for the last bite of gelato I am having.
Chocolate creaminess puts all my fears aside.
I taste all the flavors.
Mango and Nutella,
Milk and Dark chocolate.
Sadly, I look down at my empty cup and say,
“Mama, may I please have some more?”
