Sherlock Holmes has inspired a remarkable cult of celebrity from his first appearance in A Study in Scarlet (1887) to his last case in “The Final Problem” (1917) and beyond into his “life after death.” This presentation by Hunter College's Dr. B.J. Rahn explores the remarkable international appeal of Holmes, analyzes the nature of the fascination, and discusses its various manifestations in print, on stage, in films, and beyond.
