Chris Grabenstein, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library

Friday, November 7, 2014 - 4:00 PM | Members' Room | For Members and Their Guests | Grade 3 and Older | $5 per person payable at the door

Luigi Lemoncello, an eccentric inventor of video and board games, returns to his hometown to build a new, state-of-the-art library. In honor of the grand opening, Lemoncello selects a dozen 12-year-olds to participate in an overnight lock-in event at the library. But when the kids wake up, they discover a new and unexpected game is afoot: whoever can find a way out of Mr. Lemoncello’s library will win the grand prize.

Booklist describes Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library as “An ode to libraries and literature that is a worthy successor to the original madman puzzle-master himself, Willy Wonka.” Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library was an American Library Association Notable Books for Children’s selection in 2013 and the Agatha Award children’s mystery winner.

In this event, author Chris Grabenstein will share his novel, lead writing games, and “leave kids eager to do more writing on their own.” Grabenstein is also the co-author with James Patterson of New York Times bestsellers I Funny and Treasure Hunters, as well as a playwright, screenwriter, and improvisational comedian.
