Marie-Therese: Child Of Terror

Marie-Thèrése, the only surviving child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, escaped from Paris' notorious Temple Prison in 1795 at age seventeen and went on to become one of the defining figures of the early nineteenth century through her political skill, strategic marriage alliance, and fierce loyalty to France. Napoleon would call her "the only man in the family." Child of Terror, the first major biography of this pivotal figure, was praised as "highly detailed, exhaustively researched, often riveting" by Booklist.

Susan Nagel is the bestselling author of Mistress of the Elgin Marbles: A Biography of Mary Nisbet, Countess of Elgin. She has written for the stage, screen, and scholarly and popular magazines. She is a professor in the humanities department at Marymount Manhattan College.
