New Digs for YA

Monday, August 8, 2022

Did you recently try to grab a YA (young adult) book from either Stack 9 or the Whitridge Room and find shockingly empty shelves?! Worry not, we haven’t removed them from the Library’s holdings. We have merely relocated them to a new, more spacious, spot in the Little Whitridge Room.

The Library has held a YA collection focused primarily on titles for middle-school readers since the early 2000s, but with Richard Peck’s generous donation in 2015, we began to expand more earnestly into high school. These books were originally tucked away into the back corner of Stack 9, then moved closer to the front--and now we are pleased to have merged the middle and high school collections into one!

From this time on all the YA books will be combined into one collection. Eventually, all the spines will host the distinctive red sticker. Tweens and teens (and also adults who enjoy reading YA) can now browse everything together. And the larger space allows us to purchase more books for YA readers of all ages.

You’re welcome to ask the Children’s & YA Librarians for recommendations, and we hope you will! Also feel free to check out any of the books that are on display; we’ll replace them with other favorites for the next visitor. Drop into the Little Whit and see our new look in person. Don’t forget to let us know if you have any requests!
