Project Cicero 2024

Sunday, February 25, 2024

This March, educators and volunteers from all over New York City will join together for the Project Cicero book drive. In the years since its founding, Project Cicero has distributed more than 4,000,000 books to over 1,000,000 public school students in all 5 boroughs. The Library is proud to be participating in the book drive for our 24th year.

During the annual event, Project Cicero collects new and gently used books for children and young adults and transports them to a distribution site. Then, on the weekend of March 9-10, over 1,000 teachers from under-resourced NYC schools will be able to enhance and replenish their own classroom libraries with as many books as they can carry home. This could only be achieved with the support of the many volunteers who donate books and their own time to sort and display them.

Here's how you can help:

  • Donate books you already own: On February 29-March 7, drop off new and gently used books (for children and teens only) in the Library's entry stairwell.
  • Don't own any children's books but still want to help? Purchase books from our Wish List and they will be donated directly to Project Cicero.
  • Volunteer at the book distribution event: Imagine yourself surrounded by books and fellow book-lovers, all to share the magic of reading with our city's students.

Any donation, big or small, will help build school libraries and nurture the love of a good book. Thank you so much for supporting such a wonderful cause.
