Members' Room: Caroline Rennolds Milbank, Inside Couture

In connection with our Fabulous Fashion exhibition (open through January 15, 2023), an evening with the author of the definitive classic Couture: The Great Designers.

Caroline Rennolds Milbank’s work in fashion history has included stints as an auction house expert (Sotheby’s and Doyle New York), appraiser, and consulting curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Clark Art Institute and other locations. Her essays have appeared in museum catalogs including the Met Museum's Chanel in 2005 and Poiret in 2007.

Milbank's most recent book is Fashion: A History in Photographs 1850 to Today, and her work is included in the forthcoming India in Vogue, edited by Hamish Bowles.

Her seminal book Couture: The Great Designers was published in 1985 and contains 60 chapters about individual designers and couturiers, describing their work as fashion artists. Her other books include New York Fashion, The Couture Accessory, and Resort Fashion.
