Marie-Thèrése, the only surviving child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, escaped from Paris' notorious Temple Prison in 1795 at age seventeen and went on to become one of the defining figures of the early nineteenth century through her political skill, strategic marriage alliance, and fierce loyalty to France. The first major biography of this pivotal figure, was praised as "highly detailed, exhaustively researched, often riveting" by Booklist.
