The Writing Life

Workshop: Barbara Ascher, Turning Characters Into People in Fiction and Nonfiction

Monday, October 7, 2013 - 11:00 AM | Whitridge Room | For Members Only

This course will explore how words become the breath of life, creating in one dimension a multi-dimensional being. We will learn how writers allow us to see and know someone. Class time and homework will be structured to promote insight into the process and the craft.

Barbara Lazear Ascher, former columnist for the New York Times, is the author of four books of nonfiction, Playing After Dark (Doubleday), The Habit of Loving (Random House), Landscape Without Gravity: A Memoir of Grief (Viking Penguin), and Dancing in the Dark: Romance, Yearning, and the Search for the Sublime (Harper Collins). She has taught writing at the University of Chicago and Bennington College and is currently on the faculty of Goucher College’s MFA program.
