NURSE! A Solo Show by Ayun Halliday

Saturday, June 22, 2024 - 7:00 PM | Members' Room | open to the public | $20 per person | registration required

Inspired in part by the life of Kate Claxton, ingenue turned entrepreneur-of-a-certain age, who made misfortune into a meal ticket, spending decades recounting the events of the Brooklyn Theatre Fire to sold-out crowds, Juliet’s Nurse hits the lecture circuit to set the record straight. Teenagers! Aging! Sex! Shakespeare! Nurse demands the last word on the greatest love story ever told.

Nurse is directed by Spencer Kayden and produced by The Firebird Project.

Ayun Halliday is the co-founder of Theater of the Apes, and creator and host of its book-based variety show, Necromancers of the Public Domain. She has been writing and performing in her own work since joining the NeoFuturists in 1989. Ayun graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in theater, and participated in the first-ever college Improv Olympics, coached by Del Close (her team won). She is the Chief Primatologist of the long running, award-winning East Village Inky zine. She is the author of nine books, including the self-mocking autobiography No Touch Monkey! And Other Travel Lessons Learned Too Late and, most recently, Creative, Not Famous: The Small Potato Manifesto and its interactive companion Creative, Not Famous Activity Book: An Interactive Idea Generator for Small Potatoes & Others Who Want to Get Their Ayuss in Gear. She lives in East Harlem, where she is hard at work on a dystopian novel set in her childhood branch library. ayunhalliday.com Photo by Jody Christopherson
