Opening Reception, From the Western Front and Beyond: The Writings of World War One

The Library celebrates the opening of its new exhibition with a reception for members and their guests. It will feature remarks by authors Adam Kirsch and Caroline Alexander and a one-night-only additional exhibit of books, letters, medals, and other artifacts of the war loaned by Library members.

Adam Kirsch is a senior editor at the New Republic and a columnist for Tablet magazine. He is the author of several books of poetry and criticism, as well as books on Benjamin Disraeli and Lionel Trilling. His essay “The War Poets: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori” appears in the exhibition catalog.

Caroline Alexander is the author of the international bestsellers The Endurance, The Bounty, and The War That Killed Achilles. Alexander is a contributing writer for National Geographic Magazine and has written for the New Yorker and Smithsonian. Her essay “War of Words” appears in the exhibition’s catalog.
