Tad Hills, Reading with Rocket

Friday, February 7, 2014 - 4:00 PM | Open to the Public | For Ages 5-9 | Members' Room | $5 per person, payable at the door | Advance registration required

In 2010, author/illustrator Tad Hills brought picture-book readers the joyous tale of Rocket, a dog who learns to read—and the little bird who teaches him—in How Rocket Learned to Read. This story, a touching tribute to reading and the people who inspire it, became a New York Times bestseller and garnered glowing reviews and awards including a 2010 Parents' Choice Silver Award and a National Parenting Publications Honors Award. A sequel, Rocket Writes a Story, was published to similar acclaim, debuting at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and named as a top picture book of the year by Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal. Hills is also the creator of the beloved and bestselling Duck & Goose picture books and board books, the ongoing stories of two charming feathered friends.

At this event, author and illustrator Tad Hills, with his special guest Rocket (the real live dog), will share one of his favorite stories and demonstrate how Hills brings all of his characters to life on the page.
